Reading group — Beginning the week with Freud

An international online reading group working our way through the entire Standard Edition of the Complete Psychological Works of Sigmund Freud in English (trans. James Strachey).

We have been meeting weekly since April 2021 and are currently reading Volume VIII "Jokes and their Relation to the Unconscious" (December 2024).

We read aloud for fifty minutes on a roster (including the footnotes) and then have ten minutes for discussion.

We expect to complete the project in about ten years (2031).

About Lynne Holdem and Crispin Balfour
Lynne practices in Ngāmotu/New Plymouth and is a past president of ANZAP. Having been a student of psychotherapy since 1989 and never having read Freud, she is finding it surprising and humbling to find out what he really said. Crispin recently moved from Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland to Te Whanganui-a-Tara/Wellington where he practices psychoanalysis in the Lacanian field. He discovered the magic of Freud’s words in 2001 and has never looked back.
